Our mission is to improve Australia’s technological competitive advantage by providing professional services, including Engineering, Consulting, Training, Learning & Development, Support & Operations, Test & Evaluation, Systems Integration, Installations, and Project Management. When you partner with us, we do everything possible to find the right technology solution for you so you can get the best value from your investments and the people who make the technology work.
Founded in 2020 by Greg Underwood, Jeff Batten, and Dave Herbertson, supported by our Canberra-based Director, Tim Laurins, and our recently appointed Strategic Advisor, BRIG (Ret’d) Associate Professor Ian Langford. UBH exists to bring people and technology together to operationalise capability.
We are a Sovereign veteran-owned company providing services across the entire Information Domain. As veterans, we understand the evolution that Defence is facing from a technology and workforce perspective. Our team has the background and experience to successfully merge the implementation of technology with the people and processes that are fundamental to success for organisations. We can do this because of our unique pedigree: we are born and bred technologists who have supported the entire spectrum of Government operations. We are experts across the Information Domain and have found our portfolios naturally aligned with customer needs in Communications, Information Warfare, and Cyber and Operations Management support.
Why choose a veteran-owned business?
Most veterans want to continue serving Australia, but many can’t continue to do so in uniform. This can be due to physical and/or psychological injury, service fatigue, or the need for stability/change. Veterans care and want to help Defence succeed.
Defence spends millions training veterans when they are in but fails to leverage these skills and experience effectively once they leave. Many completely leave Defence’s sphere of influence, losing access to these skilled employees. Veteran businesses recruit veterans to bring these people back to support the mission.
Veterans understand the culture, processes, risks, and needs of Defence. When veterans work on projects, they don’t try to delay or limit outcomes for personal or business purposes. Veteran businesses want to deliver capability to their mates still serving.
Veteran businesses are inherently sovereign. Veteran owned businesses operate domestically, pay tax in Australia, and profits remain in Australia where they are both spent locally and reinvested into the community through charities and innovation. Veteran business money stays local.
Veterans support veterans. In the wake of a national veteran suicide crisis, now is the time that veterans take greater responsibility for their own. This means creating employment opportunities to keep them connected with their work passion, social network, and military identity. Enabling veteran businesses enables better veteran care.
